Rockwood Library
Considered the most diverse Portland, Ore., suburb city, Rockwood was in need of a library to help revitalize the nearby town square and generate a synthesis of learning and cultural celebration. The design style compliments the neighborhood context, but is shaped to take advantage of natural sunlight and views capturing Mt. Hood to the East. The extra challenge was accommodating affordable house living spaces on the same site. The building supports both uses and operates as a hub for both library visitors and the residences while also keeping a safe and healthy separation.
